Trip Introduction;
Manaslu Circuit Trek with Nepal Guide Treks and Expeditions leads you towards the mid-western Himalayan range of Nepal, dominated by Mt Manaslu – world’s 8th highest mountain at an elevation of 8156 meters. Manaslu region was opened in 1992, however, the region became a popular trekking destination after 2012. Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) has been providing guidance to villagers in sustaining the region’s natural heritage, similar to its neighboring Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).

Many argue that ‘Manaslu Circuit Trek’ is the best general trek in the country that allows one to experience the colorful cultures while exploring the dramatic valleys against a backdrop of classic Himalayan peaks. Several ethnic tribes including Gurung, Tamang, Magar, Ru-Pa, Larke and Siar people blend to create the most ethnically interesting series of valleys throughout the entire Himalaya. Manaslu Circuit Trek with Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition starts at Kathmandu. After spending a full day sightseeing at Kathmandu, we will take a scenic drive from Kathmandu over zig-zag hilly road to Soti Khola, north of the market town of Arughat. From there we start our trek ascending and descending along the banks of Budi Gandaki river and pass through the villages of Jagat, Deng, and Namrung. Our trail crosses from there enter and then exits a side canyon to arrive at the extensive pastures of Samagaon. We will spend an extra day here at Samagaon for acclimatization and exploration around the busy village and monasteries of Samagaon. Our trail from here heads north with magnificent views of Manaslu, we head towards Samdo which is a Tibetan refugee settlement of about 40 houses.

An additional day’s rest is made at Samdo for acclimatization before crossing the challenging Larkya La Pass. Our trek continues with a gradual and then steep climb to the top of Larkya La Pass at 5135m with amazing views of Himlung and Cheo Himal, Menjung, Gyagi Kang, Kang Guru and Annapurna II. From the top, we will descent vigorously to reach Bimtang. Our trail from there is a mixture of both ascent and descends along the banks of Marsyangdi river to finally arrive at Syange. Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to Hotel.
Our airport arrival and departure representative will be at Tribhuwan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will be transferred to hotel and our staff will help you until check-in procedure ends at Hotel. Either you can have rest at Hotel or visit NGT’s office. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Nepal Guide Treks & Expedition Team, we also organize a formal program; meet with our guide with full extent of information and discussion regarding our Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Day 02: Sightseeing at Kathmandu

We will spend our day sightseeing around some of the attractive world heritage sites within Kathmandu valley. Also, today we will complete all the necessary paper works and other preparations required for Manaslu Circuit Trek with Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition.

Note: It is not possible to visit all world heritage sites in Kathmandu within a day. So you can choose at least 3-4 places for a day sightseeing

Day 03: Drive to Soti Khola [712m/2335ft]. [9-10 hrs drive]
Early morning, make sure that all essential stuffs are packed, our guide and vehicle will be at your hotel, and we drive scenic zigzag hilly roads to Soti Khola, passing Nepal’s busy Prithivi highway to roughly made roads. After we reach at a small market town Arughat Bazaar, we again continue to North and finally reach at Soti Khola.

Day 04: Trek from Soti Khola to Maccha Khola [883m/2896ft]. [5-6 hrs Trek]
First day of our trek we initially begin the trail that passes by crossing a small bridge then start following ascends. Then, we follow the downhill walk until reach at Budi Gandaki river banks. After there we again start climbing towards Maccha Khola through charming Gurung cultural village of Labishe.

Day 05: Trek from Machha Khola to Jagat [1415m/4641ft]. [5-6 hrs of Trek]
Today, we start our journey firstly by following the Budi Gandaki River side then head, following the descending trail through several ridges. After there, we take few numbers of gentle ascends and descends to finally reach at Jagat. At evening, free excursion around the village would be worthwhile to explore local cultural, lifestyle and tradition.

Day 06: Trek from Jagat to Deng [1804m/5917ft]. [6-7 hrs of Trek]
Leaving Jagat, the trail leads us to reach at Setibas within an hour of walk. Setibas is the Buddhist cultural influenced villages where we can see several mani walls & flourishing colorful prayer flags. Then, we continue trekking towards stone houses of Ghatta Khola and to Philim village. Again, we follow the trail that enters a steep uninhabited gorge, descending through the grassy slopes and cross the Budi Gandaki River. We follow walking through bamboo forest for a while continue towards the tiny village of Deng.

Day 07: Trek from Deng to Namrung [2670m/8757ft]. [6-7 hrs Trek]
After breakfast, we start the journey firstly following few numbers of ascends and descends until we reach at Ghap village. Along the route, we can explore tiny village Ghap where few numbers of stone houses that highly influenced by Buddhist religion. Then we make a further ascends through rhododendron and bamboo filled forest leads us to reach to Namrung Village – a village with lovely stone houses and a police check post that controls access to the upper part of the valley.

Day 08: Trek from Namrung to Samagaon [3541m/11614ft]. [6-7 hrs of Trek]
From Namrung, we can have early morning tantalizing sunrise view over the Ganesh Himal, mount Himal Chuli and Siring Himal. After breakfast, we leave Namrung following the ascends passing through beautiful forests and reach at Lihi – a charming village with Buddhist monastery, chhortens and barley terraces. we further cross other few number of villages such as Sho, Lho and Shyala before reaching Samagaon. Along the route, the trail offers us to view fascinating scenery of Mt. Manaslu from Lho village, explore famed Ribung monastery, view of Himal Chuli and Ngadi Chuli from Shyala village.

Day 09: Acclimatization day at Samagaon.
we take a spare day at Samagaon before heading to high altitudes, rest and exploring. Today we hike towards Pungyen monastery for great view of glacier and mountains. We visit the local village, friendly locals and visit of local school can make our day worthwhile.

Day 10: Trek from Samagaon to Samdo [3872m/12700ft]. [3-4 hrs Trek]
Initially, we start our day following the trail that descends down to Budi Gandaki River. Then leads parallel towards north. Along the route we explore Buddhist mani wallas, colorful prayer flags that highly influenced with Tibetan Buddhism. The trail leads us to reach summer herding area of Kermo Kharka from where we can have spectacular view of Mt. Manaslu. After there we, follow an ascending trail before we descend to a bridge over the river. After crossing the bridge, we continue short ascend towards Samdo – A Tibetan refuses village settlement.

Day 11: Acclimatization day at Samdo.
Today, we take second day acclimatization which is essential before heading up to high altitudes including adventurous Larkya La Pass at 5135m. We make our day worthy by making a short ascend hike towards a hill which offers great views of Mt. Malaslu range as well as other peaks; Simrang, Hiunchuli, Ngadi, Larkya Peak and many more.

Day 12: Trek from Samdo to Larkya Pedhi [4494m/14740ft]. [5-6 hrs Trek]
Today, we follow our walk through descending edge until we reach at Budi Gandaki River bank side. After crossing a bridge, we start walking ascends. Along the route, we can have stunning views of Larkya glacier. After we reach at beautiful valley at Salka Khola, we gradually climb up to reach at Dharmasala. Dharmasala is also called Larkya Phedi – a Base of Larkya La Pass. At afternoon, we will have plenty of time to be acclimatized, get relaxed and explore surroundings.

Day 13: Trek to Bimtang [3720m/12201ft] via Larkya La Pass [5135m/16842ft]. [8-9 hrs Trek]
Today is our important day of entire Manaslu Circuit Trek since the day offers us to reach and cross the adventurous Larkya La Pass at 5135 meters. We leave Larkya Phedi early in the morning because we must have to cross the pass to avoid matured sun rays and unusual winds at the pass. Until we reach at the pass, we follow the gradual climbing trail across moraines and passes snow walls. From the top of Larkya La Pass, we can have tantalizing views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Mt. Kang Guru, Mt. Annapurna II and may other snow-paved peaks. After crossing the pass, the trail dramatically starts following the long descend towards Bimtang at 3720 meters.

Day 14: Trek from Bimtang to Dharapani [2006m/6579ft]. [7-8 hrs Trek]
After Dharapani, we make further descends through rhododendron and pine filled forests to Hompuk and again down to a folk of the Dudh Khola. After there, we follow a quite difficult trail that influenced by landslide. After complete such technical section, we reach at beautiful scatted settlement of Kharche. Again, we follow again descending trail that leads us to a large Gurung cultural village of Tilje. We cross a suspension bridge over Marsyangdi river and continue towards Dharapani.

Day 15: Trek from Dharapani to Syange [1194m/3916ft]. [5-6 hrs Trek]
Last day of our Manaslu Circuit Trekking, we leave Dharapani with ascends, away from Marsyangdi river, hike through a broad, flat valley to reach the village of Tal. We can explore a large waterfall there. Then we continue towards Chamje by crossing the river once again. After Chamje, we make descend through rhododendron and pine filled forests to reach Syange. Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu. [8-9 hrs drive]
After accomplish entire Manaslu Circuit Trek, we drive back to Kathmandu from Syange. At beginning, the drive may not seem pleasant because of the bumpy roads but once we are on the highway – the zigzag road offers beautiful riverside scenery on our way back to Kathmandu.

Day 17: Free day at Kathmandu.
You would surely like to see as much of Kathmandu as possible. An early start is practical to visit the temples of Kathmandu. Also, walking around the shopping area of Thamel is worth spending quality time at Kathmandu. We will have a final meal together in the evening.

Preparation for Trekking:

  • Trekking is an art of walking in the Himalayas. Trekking in Nepal has its several varieties of trails from very easy to hard routes depending upon what you choose for your adventure holiday.
  • Basic physical fitness warm up prior to any trekking trips would be highly appreciated such as Jugging, cycling, walk through ascends/descends, gym and so on.
  • Travel insurance from reputed insurance company would be highly appreciated, sometime along the trail there might be happen unusual natural disaster, high altitude sickness and weaknesses that should have to cover by the insurance policy. We usually carry general first aid which would not be sufficient in some cases. Apart from the popular trails, there are not any sophisticated hospitals in case of emergency, helicopter rescue would require in such cases.
  • Nepalese mountain trails comparatively contains high altitudes than any other trekking trail around the world, take it in mind that we should not have to ascend very quickly to be safe from altitude sickness attack. Having more acclimatization days in itinerary is a good idea.
  • Some trekking trials in Nepal are seriously difficult; we recommend choosing those trips for those trekkers who already have previous trekking experiences.

Clothing and Equipments for Trekking:

Equipments and Clothing plays crucial role to have trekking adventure great. Don’t miss all essential stuffs and do not carry a lot of heavy equipments. Trekking clothing and equipments requirement differ from individual trekking trip; easy to hardest, short trek to long trek, low altitudes to high altitudes etc. Nevertheless the general equipment lists are as follows;

Clothing:

Upper Body:

  • One T-shirt Icebreaker Merino 150 or lightweight 200.
  • Two long Icebreaker Merino 150 or lightweight 200 shirts.
  • One polar fleece pullovers, medium weight.
  • One polar fleece jacket.
  • One Gore-Tex waterproof and breathable jacket with large hood to accommodate climbing helmet.
  • Lightweight down jacket for chilly days in base camp or warm layer when stopping for short breaks.
  • One very warm goose-down (duvet) jacket with hood or a down/duvet suit if you prefer, for high altitude use.

Hands:

  • One pair lightweight poly-liner gloves. These will be worn when tying knots, but not inside your mitts
  • One pair mittens, consists of 1 Goretex over mitt matched with the very warm polar fleece mitt liner

Heads:

  • Warm hat wool or synthetic that covers your ears
  • Balaclava
  • Scarf or neck sleeve
  • Face mask
  • Ball cap or brimmed sun cap
  • Glacier Sunglass with side shields
  • One pair ski goggles (optional with light and dark lens)
  • Bandana or head scarf, useful for dusty conditions

Lower Body:

  • Icebreaker Merino 150 underwear briefs
  • One pair walking shorts
  • One pair walking trousers for trekking and around camp
  • Two pair Icebreaker Merino 150 or lightweight 200 thermal bottoms
  • One pair Icebreaker Merino 200 weight thermal bottoms
  • One pair polar fleece trousers
  • One pair Gore-Tex trousers or bibs. Waterproof/breathable with full side zips
  • One pair of Goose-down (duvet) trousers or bibs. You may prefer a down (duvet)

Feet:

  • One pair One-Sport Millet Everest Over-boots or equivalent (with Aveolite liners; good quality plastic shells with inner boots; avoid tight fit with heavy socks.)
  • One pair sturdy leather or synthetic (Gortex) hiking boots with good ankle support for the walk to advanced base camp
  • One pair cross-trainers, running shoes and/or sandals for Kathmandu and in camp
  • One pair down booties (optional)
  • Two pair med-heavy poly or wool socks
  • Two Pair of liner socks. Polypropylene or wool
  • Vapour barrier liner socks or plastic bread-bags
  • Two pair lightweight trekking socks, poly or wool
  • Light Icebreaker Merino wool or cotton socks for in town.

Travel and Sleeping Gear

  • Rucksacks and Travel Bags; One medium rucksack (50-70 litters / 3000-4500 cubic inches, can be used for airplane carry).
  • Two large (120 L / 7500 cubic inch) duffle kit bags for clothing and equipment. Must be durable for use on pack animals.
  • Small padlocks for duffel kit bags.

Medical & Personal:

  • Sunscreen: SPF 30 or higher, non-oily (Dermatone or Terrapin)
  • Lipscreen: SPF 30 or higher, any brand
  • Toiletry kits: toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, alcohol-based anti-bacterial hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial soap, comb/brush, shave kit, lighter, small long-burning candle, needle/thread, throat lozenges (bring travel size bottles to keep you kit small)
  • First-aid kits: Ibuprofen/aspirin, assorted band-aids, moleskin, little of hydrogen peroxide, Neosporin-type suave, Nu-skin spray, small gauze pad, roll of adhesive tape, tweezers, safety pins, small bottle of water purification tablets. Include any prescription travel meds that might prescribed by your doctor. (antibiotics, Diamox, sleep aids)
  • Zip-loc bags: Always useful Baby wipes
  • Ear plugs: Very useful in noisy lodges and tents. Available in most hardware stores.
  • Water purification tablets: Such as Potable Aqua brand iodine tablets. You will be given plenty of purified water during your trek and climb, but one bottle of backup purification tablets is always a good idea for your travels. They are especially useful in hotels on your way to Nepal. You should not drink untreated tap water anywhere in Asia and bottled water in some rare cases might not be available.

Best Seasons for Trekking:

Basically, three months in autumn – September, October, November and 3 months in spring – March, April, May total 6 months are considered as a best season for trekking in Nepalese Himalayas. During the seasons, the weather would be clear, sunny and warm in mountains that’s why trekker can get great opportunities to have splendid views of mountains. Apart from that, some adventure seeking trekker also loves to have their trekking holiday in December, January and February to avoid trekker’s crowed and to get peaceful environment along the route. Monsoon seasons (June, July & August) would not be perfect trekking holiday since it will be affected by rains. But, one can enjoy short trek, hike and also can plan for rain shadow parts during the monsoon.
